But still I would like to go to CMYK directly...
I hear that. Capture One is a complete workflow solution for many
studio shooters and being able to output press ready CMYK files
with 2-97% density restriction from Lightroom would be significant.
That capability alone is keeping a bunch of Capture One users away
from Lightroom even though they are interested.
Capture One Pro is a completely different solution to ACR, Lightroom,
Aperture and so on.
Capture One Pro:
Build for professional photographers with main focus on catalog
production.
Features - full preset and custom ICC colormanagement (input to
output), multiple output at once, tethered shooting etc.
Missing features are full metadata support and DNG support (for
example).
Lightroom / Aperture:
Build for a wide range of artistic, professionals and high end amateurs.
Features - preset DNG based colormanagement (Input - for Aperture I'm
not shure), can be enhanced through DNG Profile Editor and custom RGB
based output colormanagement.
Metadata support and DNG support, fuctions for image presentation.
Missing features - I don't know! Yes, there is a wishlist, but I
don't miss anything important.
ACR:
Is what it has to be - direct RAW support inside Photoshop (and of
course the engine of Lightroom).
It is made as an allrounder and in doing its job very well.
If someone needs more options, he/she can use one of the other products.
Btw. have you ever opend a RAW file inside Photoshop as smart object?
This is realy cool !!!
And there are so many other software packages on the market with good
userbases and support.
And it is good, that there is more than one concept.
Andrew is absolutely correct by saying, that there is no need for
advanced input colormanagement for the main base of photographers.
But there is a need for others (not only photographers) and again
there are products to do that.
Adobe had to decide which way to go and they have done.
I don't think, that it is a good idea to confuse the users with
different solutions inside one software.
There is not one solution for every purpose and that's good, because
this software would be a monster with endless menus and preference sets.
Who should controll that in a company?
On another note, I can't believe Capture One Pro v4 is taking so
long to get out the door...
Capture One 4 isn't stabe on my PPC and Intel Macs, so I can wait for
Capture One Pro 4, in the meantime v3 is doing a good job.
