Yes, I'm referring to something that should be done when shooting a
target to build a profile.
OK, I see.
I did not do this because I feel a profiling software should be able
to do the compensation itself without the help of yet another third-
party software. After all, the white patches around the Digital
ColorChecker SG target and similar targets are there for exactly this
purpose.
For the review, it seemed relevant what the various profiling packages
- which are expensive enough - can achieve by themselves. Once a user
decides which package he wants to use, it certainly won't hurt to see
if something like Equalight can even improve the result.
In any case, this does not seem relevant for our discussion at hand,
because the disputed fact is that I wrote I was able to achieve better
results with ICC profiles than Adobe etc. profiles. If I even could
improve on the quality I was able to get out of ICC profiles, my point
would only become stronger.
As you will see when I'll publish my number, the lighting of the
target I used was highly uneven (since I used a single flash in 45
degree position), and still it made ProfileMaker to produce the best
profile of all.
The biggest problem you could have is incorrect measurement data.
For example, if there is more light in the center of the
target than on the edges (a hot spot--even if subtle), then the
measurements, or your camera responses, are not sampling the test
chart uniformly.
Hot spot is certainly an issue Digital ColorChecker SG has no way to
compensate for, but I did shoot the target from some distance, and not
zooming in very much.
