balancing or defining gray balance (either automatic or custom)
beforehand is normalizing the data to then be handed to a "well-
behaved" camera profile.
As someone had pointed out. Think of this like profiling a RIP/
Printer. Linearize first then profile.
Linearize Printer=Gray balance digital camera (now yes thats an overly
simplified answer, but I think you get the just of this.
