Uli does seem to be concerned with artistic intent/pleasing
rendering profile application, not calibration. But he didn't read
enough about ACR or DNG profiles to understand that they include
calibration.
I understand that, and it's nothing unusual. Every monitor profile
includes the calibration data it's built upon so that when it's
selected, the monitor calibration can be set accordingly.
That doesn't affect the clear distinction between calibration and
profiling at all.
OTOH, if DNG profiles do have an advantage over ICC camera profiles
(in that they include calibration data), and even with this advantage,
cannot improve on the results ICC camera profiles are able to deliver,
this will only make them look worse.
