....Of course if the advice is to stick with ErgoSoft, I welcome that advice
as well. I'm not completely against staying with them, just taking this
opportunity to test the waters again.
Thanks.

Subject: Suggestions for a new RIP
To all,
I recently sought the help directly with one of our long standing members,
but would like to ask the advice and opinion of the rest of this group.
I am in need of getting a new RIP. I've been using ErgoSoft's StudioPrint
for years now (now using version 12.0), and frankly have been very happy
with the quality/accuracy of the prints. I am currently printing with an
Epson4000, but will soon upgrade to the 4880 or possibly the 7880. My
printing is primarily photography and occasionally I get involved in
producing proofs to mimic offset printing output for some of our commercial
print clients. I do not need a RIP for any special niche uses like large
signage, textiles, and such. The only reason I am considering switching from
StudioPrint is due to some customer service issues which I won't get into
now.
Bottom line, I hear many names thrown about...Colorburst, ONYX, and others.
Do you have a favorite or recommendation? I do like to make my own profiles
too, since I often experiment with different papers. So I need to be able to
easily incorporate profiling into the RIP. For example, with StudioPrint, I
use their add-on module called ColorGPS for this purpose.
I appreciate any and all advice and suggestions.
Thanks,
Bob Rock

Yep, but my point is that when you launch the application for the
first time ever, the color space that will appear when you choose the
TIFF format is AdobeRGB. That's the default. Of course you can select
ProPhoto instead, thereby actively changing from the default setting
to another one, and your new selection will stick. I never denied
that. But please, it's not important!

No, with the "issue at hand" I referred to my tests which measure the
accuracy of Adobe provided profiles. It was in *this* context only
that I said I used the "default value (AdobeRGB)". And it's in this
context where this selection does not matter simply because the
measurement results do not differ no matter whether I select AdobeRGB
or ProPhotoRGB.
Bye
Uli
