Interesting; I've also had issues with reds - but mainly in ProPhoto. ARGB(98) tends to work OK depending on how one handles the reds in Silverfast. I did have one set of reds for which nothing worked as well as using sRGB, but this is not typical. Blues (i.e. mainly skies) have not been a problem in ARGB(98). Silverfast is kind of a dog's breakfast to use (obscurantist aspects of the UI and the documentation, compensated by very responsive technical support), but between Minolta's native software, Vuescan and Silverfast, the latter is definitely the preferred tool for dealing with the intricacies of negatives.

Depends on the image.
The sample on the site is sRGB.
If I wanted to use a big space then I might go for DonRGB. The
important thing is appreciating how easy it is to screw the image up
by making moves that you either can't see on the monitor or don't give
you the numbers you want because the gamut isn't a nice, easy to
understand (or remember), shape.
I don't use AdobeRGB (it's banished from in-house workflows) because
it is too easy to get the reds wrong and it can't do anything useful
with blues without clipping.
