Dear all,
I am having a hard time understanding some aspects of InDesigns colormanagement and I was hoping some of you color experts could give me an explanation.
I receive an indd document with RGB and CMYK policy disabled. My own copy of InDesign CS3 uses the europe general purpose preset with color mismatch alerts checked: preserve RGB profiles and ignore CMYK profiles (ignore linked profiles).
Opening this document the color mismatch dialogues pops up: In the CMYK color mismatch dialogue I choose a PSR Gravure profile for output, and choose enable all profiles for placed content.
And now the problem: The document has some Illustrator CS3 CMYK content placed. When opening the link in Illustrator I can see that the file have the ISO Coated (Fogra 27) profile embedded, and that the object is filled with an orange, C0 M25 Y100 K0. However in InDesign using the separations preview this orange reads C7 M10 Y97 K2. First I thought this was just the softproof converting from ISO Coated to the document profile PSR Gravure, but when exporting to PSR Gravure PDF using the convert to destination (preserve numbers) this orange still reads C7 M10 Y97 K2 from the Adobe Acrobat Output preview(!) So CMYK values was not preserved but converted.
I have later discovered that choosing keep existing assignments or disable profiles for placed content in the CMYK mismatch color dialogue preserves the orange in Y100 M25. It appears that choosing the enable profiles for placed content overrules the ignore linked profiles/preserve numbers CMYK conversion policy - ignore linked profiles is not "safe" after all?
Kind regards,
Rasmus Olsen
