Hi All
A new (old!) client has asked us to supply an image we retouched in
Offset Euro pos U360 K85
profile.
I did a google and found a bit of info about it, but it all seemed very
out of date and old.
It is definitely out of date.
Was it a Linotype scanner output profile?
Yes. It was one of the LinoColor standard output profiles.
What would be a similar (if any) comparible profile from ECI?
I take it the U360 refers to TAC and K85 the black.
Yes -- "U360 K85" stands for UCR with 360% TAC and 85% max. black.
Is Euro like the Eurostandard / Euroscale of old?
AFAIK it's based on Linotype's / Heidelberg's dataset "Base Euro
Offset". There are not many similarities to modern, ISO 12647-2 based
datasets like FOGRA39. Also the separation is not what a modern printing
press expects. I'd recommend converting it rel. col. with BPC to "ISO
Coated v2 (ECI)", part of the ECI Offset 2008 archive:
<http://www.eci.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=downloads:icc_profiles_from_eci:eci_offset_2008.zip>
As there are probably additional color corrections necessary, an
advantageous alternative might be converting it to a RGB working space
(e.g. eciRGB v2,
<http://www.eci.org/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=downloads:icc_profiles_from_eci:ecirgbv20.zip>)
at first -- and finally, when all corrections are finished, to ISO
Coated v2.
