Profiling Toner-based Devices
Profiling Toner-based Devices

We have a Xerox Docucolor 12 and Matchprint Server and have been very
happy with the color quality and consistency. Unfortunately, it is
too slow for production duplication.
For production volume, we recently added a Canon ImageRunner 5185
with a ColorPASS GX200 (Fiery) RIP. However, unlike the Doc 12, we
have not been happy with the color quality using the built-in
solution. Fortunately, the RIP's workflow will allow me to produce a
CMYK test chart I can read in our eye-one iSIS spectrophotometer and
generate a profile in ProfileMaker5, which can then be used as the
output (device) profile.
My question is...
For toner-based devices, what is a good CMYK test chart to use and
what is a good starting point for ProfileMaker's Gamut Mapping (e.g.,
Separation... settings)? I realize this will take a little
trial-and-error--I'm hopping the expertise on this list can reduce
some of the error part...
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Richard
