Hi Kahn,
Obviously, there is a limit to how much quality can be extracted out of any
display system. I landed an el cheapo Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM LCD monitor,
recently, and no measure of the latest ColorEyes DisplayPro for Vista with a
DTP94 is ever going to coerce this system into behaving like the Eizo
plugged into my G4 (also calibrated and profiled with the same tandem). I
wanted to spend the time researching the reasons behind this limitation
because it's a great monitor otherwise, for watching movies, page layout
work in InDesign, occasional word processor and Excel, navigating the file
system, etc., but I have just not found the time yet. I suspect, though,
that it's a combination of things, like its poor RGB primaries and, maybe,
some channels interdependence. Maybe the calibrated grayscale is not that
great after all?
I wish there was some divine color management utility out there to help in
this determination because the question comes up all the time on the list.
So, my best advice to you, if you're interested in going beyond the obvious,
is, perhaps, start by comparing the Toshiba RGB primaries chromaticities to
your Eizo chromaticities. My hypothesis is that you'll find the Toshiba
gamut well within the Eizo gamut. By how much? I don't know. But we must
rule that out of the equation before looking at the next plausible
explanation. Also, why not throw your Eizo and your Toshiba monitor profiles
into a 3D viewing utility like Chromix ColorThink?
(Don't ask why I haven't done that yet...).
