Actually the ICC spec does require there be a data structure in a
DeviceLink whose purported purpose is to provide information about the
connected source and destination device spaces. Its the
"profileSequenceDescTypeTag" which is pretty much useless in conveying
useful information for either named RGB colorspaces employed or a
particular CMYK destination output profile used. Keep in mind, that the
spec does not specify that a DeviceLink Profile must stem from profiles; in
the case of CMYK/CMYK DeviceLinks, they could be generated from just
measured characterization data. But I agree, many if not most DeviceLinks
do come from profiles and there should be a cleaner way of conveying that
information than what is now available.

10.16 profileSequenceDescType
This type is an array of structures, each of which contains information
from the header fields and tags from the
original profiles which were combined to create the final profile. The
order of the structures is the order in which
the profiles were combined and includes a structure for the final profile.
This provides a description of the
profile sequence from source to destination, typically used with the
DeviceLink profile.
