An even smarter way would be to have a device link tag structure such that a copy of the destination profile exists in a properly specified tag inside the DVL itself, so that assigning the destination profile could be done whether or not it's present in one's Profiles folder.
Absolute best would be a tag for the source profile as well, so that those among us who have the tools to create high-quality DVLs have all they require to refashion the conversion to their own specific needs, if that should prove necessary for any reason.
In any case, a DVL with no specified destination profile forces one to leave the resulting separation untagged and to pass it through all the way to prepress that way. Which may be alright, since DVLs are usually aimed at known vendors and print conditions. It would be better to tag it, though -- but, in the absence of specific information, one is left guessing.
