Hello Keith,
Thank's for the link to a well-documented review of iSis's OBC. I have to
commend you for sweating the details and coming up with those great pictures
-- they say a picture is a worth 1000 words.
No wonder X-Rite wants to refer customers to your site ;-)
This being said, I find Andy's suggestion to "subvert" the evaluation
process with a 530 to be a nice twist I wouldn't have thought of, honestly
(neither X-Rite, because that's not their goal). Still. It's true that all
the software cares is a number, to grade the level of OBC present in the
source/substrate combination, however that number is arrived at. Right? Now,
it's possible that this "chroma-based" method yields "more portable" results
than a visual assessment approach. It's going to be interesting to try to
replicate Andy's results, here, and it sure is tantalizing to throw back the
problem to what seems like an "objective" means of making a decision about
OBC correction.
