The monitor measurement fixture helps block ambient light from
affecting the measurement. If you are measuring with the room lights
on then it would be a good idea to leave the fixture attached for your
transparency measurements. The alternative is to turn off the room
lights and make sure there is no window or skylight illumination.
The difficulty keeping the monitor fixture attached for the
transparency measurements is that it makes positioning the
spectrometer on the transparency more difficult. Measuring large area
items such as filters would present no problem, but measuring an IT8
transparency is much more difficult with the monitor fixture attached.

Hello. I am using an i1Pro to measure transparency lightboxes. When I
measure my monitors I attach the i1Pro to the counter-weighted
cradle which
also has the feature of blocking stray light via the felt lined
edges. I am
wondering if I should be placing the i1Pro in this cradle for
measuring a
light box as well. How are others doing it?
I do notice that a measurement in the cradle differs slightly from a
measurement without the cradle by about 20 cd/m^2. I assume that
using the
cradle is the correct thing to do, but wanted to ask how others are
doing
it. It’s kind of clunky with the weight attached (and a real pain to
take
the weight on-off as needed).
Thanks!
