How’s that? Luminance should affect the one end of the scale here but does it necessarily affect the other (black) which would provide the contrast ratio? On my SpectraView (and older Artisan), contrast ratio is the setting of both black and white point (e.g. The contrast ratio should be the difference between the black level and the max lumanice). If the white point is set to say 100/cd/m2 and the black is .25cd/m2, the ratio is 400:1 (100/.25=400). So sure, you might be able to crank up the luminance of an LCD to 200cd/m2+ but what's happening with the black? What's the target value?
