Hmm, I tried that, and it made it *darker*.

One thing that did seem to work was to use Automator to assign the color profile of my monitor to those images. (This seems to set the profile but not change the image darkness).  Then, in Preview, set the profile *back* to Generic RGB.

It appears that what's happening is that it is *inverse* applying the transformation from Generic to my monitor's profile.

This just seems so convoluted.  I can't believe that QuickTime movies wouldn't have color profiles embedded in them.  What gives?
