Dear Marco,
Keep in mind that many a "SWOP-certified" proofing system, today, are
certified under the new G7 "regime". So, "old" separations are being proofed
under the new SWOP2006 and GRACoL2006 profiles, in many cases. Ask your
printer. You'll be surprised.
Keep in mind, too, that many proofs get circulated among many printers.
There is no saying the amount of old TVI-based separations being proofed on
all kinds of proprietary systems, being sent to printers who *have* G7
calibrations and to printers who *don't* have G7 calibrations. And
vice-versa. I've seen proofs that would make a hair turn white. The only
truth is that US printers are in a state of flux and, unless someone takes
the pain of asking the question, there is no telling where printers are --
or think they are or are willing to tell, on the telephone. You know.
