Hi Ray.
That is true, but contone proofs do not attempt to produce a *spectral* match. If done correctly, they do produce a very close *metameric* match to the press output (under precisely-defined viewing conditions, usually D50).

That's the beauty of it, that "inexpensive" need not mean "incorrect" -- quite the contrary.
