Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if my screen backlight needs replacing or there is some other
problem.
I have had the Lacie screen since 2004, used for 9100 Hours approx.
Originally it connected to an iBook with VGA cable and (not that I ever
needed to) I could reach a scree whitepoint of 9300K.
It is used mostly for web/screen work so whitepoint was set at 6500K and
monitor was always calibrated using GretagMacbeth Eye2 Display.
Since December 08 same monitor is connected to a MacBook Pro, not the
Unibody version - the model using GeForce 8600M GT graphics card. It's
connected using DVI cable.
When calibrating the monitor using Eye1 MAtch and Eye2 Display, I obviously
don't have access to Contrast or individual RGB levels thanks to DVI. But I
can't get the whitepoint above 6100K.
I tried using a VGA cable with converter and managed to push whitepoint to
6600K but this is still a long way from the original 9300K.
One other issue which may help: I get ghost images left on the screen after
it has been running a while but only if the screen has not changed. i.e. If
I open a window and drag it about the screen, no ghost images are created.
If I open the same window and leave it in the same position on the screen
for 30 minutes, then move it, I see a faint impression of the window in the
original position - usually where high contrasts have been.
I'm thinking that the backlight may need replacing but I also heard about
some chip or controller which can also go faulty.
Any ideas greatfully appreciated. Thanks.
