Ken,
There are no guidelines or best practices documented for RI at printers. And
yes, I would strongly suggest that you dictate which RI to use, for every
situation you encounter -- it's your money. I personally even go as far as
sending screen captures showing the exact details of the conversion setup to
be used in Photoshop or InDesign, depending where the job will be processed.
That way, there are no surprises.
Do you supply native documents or PDFs to printers?
