It would seem like a perfect job for a Solux lamp. It could be run off a
voltage stabilizer and the SPD curve is a beautiful match to daylight
without spikes or dips. It's also filtered for I.R. and U.V.

I agree that something like this should be offered to those of us who
would
like to have the option of measuring transmissive originals.
In my opinion, it should be in the shape of a small rectangle (maybe
letter-sized), with a thickness of an inch or so, with a small opening
for
the light somewhere on it (near the edge, like the Spectroscan T, or
in the
center), and a diffuser on top.
If one has enough craftsmanship and the proper tools, it could even be
made
at home out of simple materials. The cost of making something like
this,
inclusive of, say, a low-power tungsten light source (or perhaps
halogen, as
long as it doesn't build up too much heat), should be very low.
