We have a Spyder3 Elite here, and while it works very well for LCD screens (a combination of Apple Cinema Displays, iMacs, Dell Ultrasharp) I have yet to get anything close to a successful calibration on any CRT screen I've tried. In every case the result is completely unusable: far too dark with a total loss of shadow and midtone detail.
I will admit that many of our CRTs are older and will likely be replaced soon, but when I can get decent results using Adobe Gamma or OS X's visual calibrator that tells me that I should be getting better results from the Spyder.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, or missing something I need to do outside of the software instructions (again, the LCDs work perfectly)... I did email Datacolor support over a week ago looking for advice, haven't heard anything back yet.
