ProfileMaker has not been updated for 3.5 years. I don't follow Monaco but assume the same is true. Hardly software that leads you to expect regular updates. I purchased my last update to PM in 2004. Personally I find this news very surprising. I had assumed neither would ever be updated again. And who exactly is the completion waiting to jump on the juicy pre-release details?

So, you don't think it's a fair question to ask a company that if I
invest $3,000 today in their current products that I'm not going to
get screwed in 3 months when the new/improved product comes out? I
think it's fair to ask that, not that I expect to get a candid answer,
especially on a public forum. It's still a legit question though.

As a reseller of their products, I'd like to know that my customer's
investment is going to be protected otherwise I'm not going to
recommend them. Sorry but "Protection of investment is important and
upgrade paths are part of that" isn't reassuring enough for me at
this point. Something a bit more concrete would be helpful.

Anyone inside a company dumb enough to comment, will unlikely to be
employed there for long. But if you boys want to dream about someone
telling you something about an unannounced product, by all means do
so. Again, those who know, don't talk until they are given
permission to. But lots of folks who don't have a clue will bend
your ears all day long.

No, I don't. Just like its no more or less fair when you buy a Mac today, an Epson printer, iLife etc. Everyone knows a newer version will be coming. We are not privy to when. And just because someone drops $3K on software today, that doesn't allow them to know when the next version will come about, and, that $3K software doesn't cease to exist or operate because someday, something newer will come onto the scene.

I am part owner in a software company. I understand what NDA's mean. I
recognize that rumors hurt sales. And point of fact, outside of a
company producing a product or for those under NDA who better not say
a peep, its none of anyone else's business.

At such a time that a newer version is on the horizon, a software
company can provide a free upgrade to a newer product within a
reasonable time frame of purchase, something you'll not see with
hardware. So no, you don't have a right to know about unannounced
future products just because you might purchase a product even a few
days before it is either announced or a few days before a company may
provide a free upgrade. IF You need the solution today, buy it today.
And don't worry about what might be coming cause its coming.

As a reseller of their products, I'd like to know that my customer's
investment is going to be protected otherwise I'm not going to
recommend them.

Fine, all you've done is screw yourself and your customer because they lost 3 months of production. Sit on your hands and wait, or worse, feed the rumor mill and, well you'll have to wait anyway. What's the point?

The entire set of posts is simply a bandwidth waste as no one who
really knows what's coming is going to tell those who don't. Might as
well get into a hissy fit of post about Mac's versus PC, Nikon vs.
Canon or Atlantic vs. Pacific ocean. At least you'd be talking
(senselessly) about a product that actually exists!
