This kind of compensation is impractical. Calibrating the monitor becomes a time consuming chore and users would quickly switch back to a single calibration, measured in the middle of the screen. Imagine having to create 128 icc profiles just to compensation for the non linearities of the back lighting in cheaper monitors!
