I feel your pain on this one, I've been on a quest for the last 9 months to
fine monitors with good color uniformity. We've looked at Eizo, Apple,
LaCie, Hp, Dell and NEC. All 30 inchers. You'd think the Eizo would be the
best, but it wasn't. LaCie worked very hard with us to get us monitors that
looked uniform. They even let us return monitors that weren't uniform.  So
why do I care about monitor uniformity? Because I softproof on the darn
things. If I have a hot spot or cool spot on the monitor how is that going
to effect visual color evaluation of the image. And how do I justify to a
creative director that he should ignore a reddish tint in an area of an
image because it's a monitor tint issue and still call it a softproof? Maybe
we shouldn't be doing softproofing until the monitor manufacturers can
produce monitors with uniform image capabilities.
