Nipat, maybe I was a bit unprecise. Same type and same model is more or less
the same in this case with analogue connection. Means, that even if the
graphics card and the display are the same, but on the one hand used with
OS9 and on the hand used with OS X (that is the case when transferring the
profile from OS X to OS 9), the results will be different because of the
different drivers used in OS 9 and OS X. And having two cards of the same
type/model and using the same OS plus the same driver will also give
different results, because of the variations of the used capacitors and so
on.
Graeme, it´s not the quality control, it´s the quality of the capacitors and
smds that limits the quality from the beginning. The reference design always
defines a range of material deviation that has to be accepted. However, some
manufactuerers use the higher quality material and some don´t even care. The
quality of the analogue video is getting worse over the years, because VGA
is a legacy interface and everyone is concentrating on the digital
connections. Lab tests have shown that with some cards no resolution above
1024x768 really give a signals that complies or comes close to the vesa
standards. Do you remember the complaints about the bad Mac Mini analogue
DVI-I output? That was a very good example for this issue.
I hope it´s clearer now.
