It's impossible to give specific answers to such a question unless you say more about what you were doing and using before, and whether you got satisfactory results from it. Also, what settings are using in your colour management, display brightness, printer driver and Photoshop print module. Then diagnosis of the problem can begin.
There is no question that a properly profiled Epson 7900 used correctly with a properly profiled professional display should produce as reliable a result as colour management can deliver - provided of course you are expeirenced enough to understand there is a difference between transmitted light from the display and reflected light from a piece of paper which no colour management set-up can fully get around. Are you soft-proofing your luminosity settings before you print?

Subject: Epson 7900 printing too dark
Hi group. Recenlty bought a 7900 and after profiling the printer and monitor (x-rite) I'm getting prints that are consistantly too dark by about 1/2 stop. Using Eizo monitor and Color Navigator. Anyone have any thoughts on this? It's a pretty fair size investment in printer, xrite and Eizo not to be much tighter. I'm not a prepress person or someone with a techy background so please keep responses easy to understand. Thanks for any help offered.
David
