You have to be careful what you mean by "too dark" or "too light." Is the print too dark, or is the monitor too light? Is your print- viewing light the proper brightness? Once you've measured the print and determined that it gives the predicted L* values, you need to adjust the monitor to a comfortable brightness level below that of the print viewing light and profile it. You can refine this by finely adjusting the white point to match your print-viewing light. Make a plain white document in Photoshop and fill the screen with it. Use Proof Setup to load your printer profile and turn on paper white simulation. Put a blank piece of your printing paper in your print viewer or booth. Adjust the print viewing light by either the dimmer (if it has one) or just put enough black tape on the tubes until the brightness of the paper matches its image on your monitor. This is a bit techy but really not that tough and requires no equipment beyond what you have. I've glossed over some details, but you get the general idea. You can see that just profiling your monitor and printer alone will not make print and screen appearances "match"!

Hi group. Recenlty bought a 7900 and after profiling the printer and monitor (x-rite) I'm getting prints that are consistantly too dark by about 1/2 stop. Using Eizo monitor and Color Navigator. Anyone have any thoughts on this? It's a pretty fair size investment in printer, xrite and Eizo not to be much tighter. I'm not a prepress person or someone with a techy background so please keep responses easy to understand. Thanks for any help offered.

David
