5000K fluorescent tubes work fine for environmental lighting. If you want a
good CRI, I'd recommend Philips TL950 Series fluorescents. They measure very
close to 5000K and have a CRI (color rendering index) in the low 90's, which
is very good. Not too spikey either. Philips has another line, but they are
of lower quality and the CRI measures in the mid 80's. That might be good
enough for environmental lighting, but not for critical evaluation, at least
in my opinion. The TL950's actually work quite well for critical appraisal
too. I use Solux and TL950 interchangeably and find them both to be fine.
I'd use 5000K lighting even with your monitor calibrated to 6500K.
