But so many other things are processes too, including workflows oriented at "traditional" printing, in many ways.
The lack of "automatisms" is not the problem. The entrenched attitudes of vast sectors of the printing industry are -- and their refusal to adopt NEWER workflows than the "traditional ones they hold on to for dear life, like a raft in a storm.
ICC CM workflows are also demonstrably more efficient (producing savings on inks, paper and press makeready, among other things, besides making the design portion of the work less conjectural and more reliable too) and produce higher quality as well -- making this refusal by sectors of the printing industry to adapt and "play along" quite unjustifiable from an objective standpoint. It's a POWER play, in the end, not a technical one.

More of a pain than what was required a while back to learn Illustrator, Quark, etc., and the whole technical aspect of what was once commonly termed "desktop publishing"? You may have heard loud grumbles around 1988 or so and into the 1990s, but nobody complains any longer today, because the advantages of the digital way of doing things (as opposed to how things were done before computers came along) are beyond discussion by now. They are now beyond dispute.

How did that old saying go? "No pain, no gain"... :-)
Trite -- but perhaps a bit true?
Best.
