Marco,
Thank you for your response. I don't really care about marking directly on
the proof. That's never been a problem.

Well, that's what we do now, but it's expensive to produce those prints and
we are trying to move to a soft-proofing workflow. The problem with a
soft-proofing workflow though is convincing everyone involved to do their
part. Not everyone in the imaging chain is on-board.

I know how to make a cross rendered proof, but we don't do that. Most of the
time, our guide prints are provided for a job as much as 6 months in advance
of when the printer is selected. We don't know where it's printing, what
paper it's printing on, what type of press it will be on, etc. So we just
make RGB inkjet prints that represent the color we want. We can't really do
it any other way.

We don't like to provide separated files for the same reasons as above. The
files we provide "are" properly color-managed, but many of the printers
don't know how to use that information correctly. So the problem remains,
how to communicate accurate color edits without supplying a hard copy guide
print.
I know, I'm asking for the impossible, but I'm hoping someone will have some
clever suggestion. :-)
Ken
