I was on-site last week with two different customers with Epson R2880s and Macs. The first was running 10.5.8 and we got great results from the printer after profiling. The second was running 10.6 and we ran into problems.
I could see from the profiling chart straightaway that I had yet again encountered the issue with Epson/CS4 and 10.6. That's OK I thought, I knew of two workarounds that worked with my 4880 and for other customers. I tried the assigning a profile to the chart and setting the same profile as the printer profile (BPC off) trick first. It made a difference to the chart but the result I got was very desaturated, compared to the previous customer.
I then tried printing from Preview with Colour Matching set to Epson Controls and the No Colour Adjustment in the print settings. This produced good results on my 4880 but I got the same desaturated appearance.
If I print using the Epson driver colour management and not attempting to custom profile the result looks good. So the problem lies somewhere between the OS and the driver when No Colour Adjustment is selected.
Has anyone else had similar issues not solved by the workaround of assigning a profile to the chart?
Should I just profile with the Epson controls ON?
Regards
Rob Griffith
