Just to reconfirm, This has been my experience too with Office 2008.
At least on this test work station.

Maybe it depends on the file format(TIF, JPG, ...)? Maybe it converts
some formats through QuickTime (with Color Management) and others not?
Maybe it interprets EXIF ColorSpace Tags? Who knows ... :-(
I have been importing Tiff files in my tests.
