The question to answer should be: does the image in Word match the
appearance of the same image when opened in Photoshop? If it
doesn't, then
Word is NOT "color-managed".

Word does SOMETHING, but that something shouldn't be called "ICC color
management". It really boils down to that all-important point.
If you create a PDF from a word document, the images match Photoshop
visually and by numbers.
Word is passing on the profiles so Word can be used in a colour
managed workflow. (On a Mac)
When you view the images in word, they are being colour managed but
there appears to be some kind of extra conversion going on to display
them.
Maybe it would be a good idea to create a pdf and print that rather
than trying to print directly from word. If you need to print directly
from word I guess you would probably have to convert the images to the
printer profile in advance.
