- Thread-topic: Kodak Spotless "ICC" profile
Hi Mike,
The profile that is generated from the Spotless Toolkit is the device ICC
profile of your client¹s spotless print condition. The profile is set up to
describe the CMYKOGV print condition as CIELAB data. In a Spotless workflow,
a spotless recipe library is created to work in tandem with this profile.
The library contains the spotless (CMYKOGV) values for the spot color being
translated.
In the Spotless workflow in Prinergy, an input file is refined such that the
cmyk+spot input tint values are converted to the CMYKOGV spotless values.
So, on output to proof or plate, these values can be converted to the
appropriate destination output tint. So, unless your client is also
providing you with refined files from Prinergy or you have the spotless
recipe library that he/she is using, then the profile by itself is not
enough. The value is really in the recipe library.
The values that are being reported seem to be false or boundary values of
some sort. Nonetheless, it sounds like the profile will not be of much value
to you.
Hope this helps,
dave

Subject: Kodak Spotless "ICC" profile
I received a multicolor profile from a client of ours to use for
proofing. It appears to be generated from Kodak Spotless Toolkit and
contains orange, green and violet data. In any event, the profile is not
to the ICC standard and is not recognized by our proofing application
(GMG). Chromix ColorThink Pro will open it, with many errors, but the
data seems unrecognizable and when I try to look at the profile tags,
ColorThink crashes. The solid colorants are reported to be CIELab values
of L* 0 or 100, a*128, b*128, its matrix based, and when graphed...well,
its an enourmous Lab box seemingly encompassing the entire LAB color
space. Profile iteself is 15MB. I'm betting that the profile is
completely proprietary to Kodak Spotless applications.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board with this
client as I don't think this profile is useful in any application other
than one it was designed for. Can anyone comment on Kodak Spotless
Mutlicolor profiles and whether they can be used in other workflows?
