I have to agree with Marco on this. I thought that his original post was
clear and an attempt to help refine and tighten up the use of vocabulary
in these matters, not re-write color science and the psychology of
perception. It was a simple thing, but now this thread has outlived its
usefulness after having been hijacked several times.

My apologies if I haven't been clear, but I think I explained
what I was talking about in several different ways, and reference
to the literature on Color Constancy shouldn't make it too
difficult to understand. I reject the notion that I've somehow
been unfair - you are completely free to further the discussion
with logic, example and reference.
