Don't take this badly, Terry, but I would amend that for the sake of precision to read: "deadly slow"!
The Spectroscan scanning table measures one patch at a time (at a speed of one patch about every 2.5 or 3 seconds on average, including the time it takes to get in position to start a new line, plus several recalibration stops during a given round of measurements -- about one hour and fifteen minutes total time for the approximately 1500 patches of the ECI2002CMYK testchart, to make one example).
Not to mention that it's one NOISY!!! machine. My colleague and I at the time (in 2000) felt forced to custom-build an acoustic "muffler" for it, which only made the noise SLIGHTLY less grating.
The Spectroscan also uses pre-USB, pre-FireWire connections, which on today's CPUs call for the installation of cards or the use of adaptors.
Yes, the Spectrolino offered the flexibility of equipping it with "NF" (UV-included), UV-excluded and polarized attachments, which one can only wish for with the EyeOne Pro. But only the "NF" attachment came standard; the others had to be purchased separately, and were quite expensive.
All in all, in today's work environments, the Spectrolino/Spectroscan is not very advisable, for reasons that are both practical and financial, as I've attempted to indicate. Though it may be quite good for uses that are more scientifically-oriented and less determined by faster turnaround times.
