The Spectroscan scanning table measures one patch at a time (at a speed of one patch
about every 2.5 or 3 seconds on average, including the time it takes to get in position
to start a new line, plus several recalibration stops during a given round of
measurements -- about one hour and fifteen minutes total time for the approximately
1500 patches of the ECI2002CMYK testchart, to make one example).
It depends a bit on the drivers. One axis is less noisy than the other,
so it helps to move that axis most often. The recal's take less time
if they are done when the head is close to the calibration tile. This
can shave a little off the scanning time, but fundamentally it is slow
and precise, yes.
The Spectroscan also uses pre-USB, pre-FireWire connections, which on today's CPUs call
for the installation of cards or the use of adaptors.
It's no big deal though.
Yes, the Spectrolino offered the flexibility of equipping it with "NF" (UV-included),
UV-excluded and polarized attachments, which one can only wish for with the EyeOne Pro.
But only the "NF" attachment came standard; the others had to be purchased separately,
and were quite expensive.
Hmm. I'm not sure that's true. Certainly the instrument I have came with
both of those attachments standard, but since I didn't order it personally,
I can't be 100% sure.
