Black brings out the worst in most production light capturing sensors. The firmware/software cannot distinguish between color and noise near black. Hence the wide variance in results. I'd be interested to hear what the variances are like in marginally less dense blacks.
I'm not a printing person, so I don't know how often blacks near RGB 0,0,0 are used to create an *entire* image. I am reminded of the New Yorker cover circa 9/11. That's an example of where there might be some surprises/consequences. But that should be it.
Generally speaking the sensor limitations (variance on 0,0,0) should not be an issue.
