I saw this both in Palo Alto and in Barcelona.
Also was in a study group for comparison evaluation between this and other
systems in the market at the time.
The idea is to take the best approach to each individual artwork, and with a
relatively short training period achieve very quick results that rival an
entire production house.
As many have said including you Robin, it is not infallible, and some
tweaking can match the original to repro better but was never far off in the
test prints we saw.
If anything it's the Z printers limited saturated shadows that were a little
shy of colour on some repro. There is always the question if a 16 bit ASIC
would have a better rendering for shadows....
Yet what was surprising was the ability to move the lights around to leave
some texture in which is entirely subjective but desirable for such
paintings , even those with apparent canvas.
