From the product description on the Kodak website, this appears to be a scanner designed for high volume office document scanning. The Kodak Capture Pro software supplied to run it has no mention of operating the scanner in a non-automatic mode. To the contrary, Kodak goes to great lengths to promote totally automated captures with the i1420. Scanners that operate only in a fully automatic mode can change the exposure and tonal curve with every image, invalidating the profile, so they are not suitable for an ICC workflow.
However, there is a list on this page of third party solutions for this scanner.

Perhaps one of these will allow the control you need for a color managed workflow.
