I seem to have discovered a discrepancy between the way Photoshop and
InDesign display images in a 2 monitor environment. In my environment (mac
os 10.4.11) I have one monitor that I boot on and launch applications from
which I populate with application palettes and a 2nd monitor which I use to
display files and images. I typically do not bother creating a custom
profile for the palette monitor but do profile the 2nd monitor.
Photoshop displays images on the 2nd monitor correctly, using the custom
profile for that monitor. InDesign does not seem to use that custom profile
when displaying files on the 2nd monitor and thus the image displays
differently than in PS, ie incorrectly. My guess is that it uses what is in
the Monitor Profile setting in Color Settings, which is the generic profile
for my monitor palette.
I¹ve confirmed this by testing in a single monitor environment where both
applications display identically and correctly vs the 2 monitor environment
described above.
Am I doing something wrong here? Is this a bug in InDesign? Seems like ID
and PS should behave identically in this situation. Since I work in a 2
monitor environment I would like InDesign to display images embedded in the
files correctly. I know I could change the boot monitor to the 2nd profiled
monitor and probably resolve the issue but I¹d rather not be forced to do
this.
This is not a working space or image profile issue. I¹ve explored all of
that and the fact that the behavior only manifests when working on 2
monitors points emphatically at monitor profile usage being the culprit.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks
Bob Cornelis
