Hi to all,
I thought that I would bring you folks up to date about some of the activities of the ICC. As Chairman, I wanted to make sure we were addressing the needs of the diverse communities that we at ICC serve. It became obvious that some of the requested capabilities would trigger a major revision of the specification. After a long discussion we decided that we would work to a next generation system that was "smarter" and based upon a full spectral representation of color in the PCS. I want to emphasize that this system is NOT intended to supersede or replace the current ICC V4 specification. The next generation will work with V2 and V4 profiles, there is no plan to abandon work in this area. I have also asked that we be more transparent in our developments and technical directions. To that end, the next generation (which we call .2 (dot 2)) will be completed as an open source project which all can use. You can see what we are up to by going to www.color.org and clicking on the ICC .2 heading on the lower right of the page. Constructive comments/critiques/questions are welcome. You can post these to Phil Green using the "Ask Phil" feature of the ICC webpage or you may contact me at tlianza_at_xrite.com. Naturally, you need to replace _at_ with the appropriate character.
We have also been working on some tools for users and developers to examine profiles. These tools convert binary profiles to XML and vice versa. The IccXML project files can be downloaded from the Project page on SourceForge. The web page for this project is https://sourceforge.net/projects/iccxml/files/ . Command line tools can be found in the IccXML-Bin\Win32 folder on the sourceforge web page .
Questions that relate directly to Platform (Mac-Linux-Windows) are not readily addressed by Phil or myself. We can pass them on to the Platform vendors, but don't expect any rapid response.
Regards,
Tom Lianza
