I've printed in Singapore (2 printers) and in Shenzhen China (1
printer) with excellent results.
Most of the time I've used stochastic screens, and I've built my own
profiles from actual press tests. The cost is fairly reasonable, $400
- 700 for a test run. The trick is to get them to print to uniform
densities across the press sheet, and to be sure that the
registration is perfect (at least around the profiling target).
In one case I printed with conventional screens in Shenzhen using (at
their suggestion) the GRACoL 2006 profile with excellent results.
In all cases I make proofs myself to be sure of accuracy and
consistency.
That said, I don't think you can expect to get excellent quality from
the average printer in Asia. I have sent examples of my books to some
printers who have told me in return that they could not match my
results.

Is anyone familiar with printing standards in Asia, specifically
China and
Japan as regards magazine printing?
Are Adobe's "Japan color 2003" profiles as valid as the current
SWOP and
GRACoL 2006 profiles? What about China?
Thanks,
Chris Protopapas
