Ok, so I recently came across like new spectrolino spectroscan. I have never had the
opportunity to use one of these things that people speak so fondly of. It came with some
sort of a dongle looking thing that is a serial connection I think. This dongle also has a
plug in it for a power cord (which is missing).
My questions are:
1. Is the dongle looking thing necessary? If so how do I find a power cord for it?
Not if you are using the spectroscan. You need to power the instrument when it's
used separately from the spectroscan, so you either need to plug it into
the spectroscan via a cable, or use the mini-DIN adapter and a power supply.
2. How would I connect this to a computer that only has USB and Firewire ports?
Use a USB to serial adapter.
3. What makes this device better than an isis or a DTP70?
What makes you think it is better than an Isis or DTP70 ?
They do tend to be rather repeatable, and have good inter-instrument agreement.
If it's still complete, it should have a D65 and polarizing filter adapters,
and a range of other accessories (spot reading adapter, display adapter, reference
tile holder etc.)
It is fairly useless without it's reference tile.
The spectroscanT will allow transparency measurement with a range of apertures.
4. What is it worth?
No idea. You could monitor ebay and note what they go for.
Graeme Gill.
