Hi Tom,
I thought that the regular i1 used M1 illumination, not M0. Was that wrong?
Only 2 people on the list have replied with definite reasons and
opinions for UV cut or not in a spectrophotometer for print profiling. I
wonder how everyone else makes their decision for which instrument they
will buy.
Regards,
David

Hi David,
You are asking a very good question here. If I had to make a recommendation
for making profiles on papers with OBA, I personally would not use UV cut.
I was just looking at some output based upon profiles generated from press
samples with high OBA content using M0 and M2(UV cut). There were definite
differences, but they were fairly small. Using our killer flesh tone,
shadow detail target, I thought that the flesh tones were more pleasing
using M0. If you use the UV cut in generating a profile, your highlights may
get a bit cool when viewed in UV rich environment. If you look at the M0
output with no UV it appears a bit warmer, but that is the better error
direction in my opinion. I'm sure that there will be some that disagree
with me on this issue.

I'm not quite sure which spectro to get: UV cut or not? Does the new
i1 Photo Pro compensate for optical brighteners in software? I do use
some papers with optical brighteners. Just got an Epson 7890. My
viewing lights are florescent D50, so I'm sure that they have some UV
content. Can I get some suggestions to help me decide.
I should have mentioned that my primary use will be for making print
profiles. If the software compensates for brighteners, is there any good
reason to get a UV cut model?
Thank you all. Best regards.
David
