I just make sure the machine's profile name and location stays the same with
each re-calibration. As long as name and location doesn't change then
individual user prefs and the default template prefs will always be looking
in the right place (when they have initially been set correctly).
As for having a login-hook shell script it would be a useful capability no
doubt, but I don't see how it could really save much time of over setting up
the default user template, since each display needs to be individually
calibrated. In the end you still have to do a bit of setup to each
individual workstation.
Though now that I think about it, have you investigated Preference
Manifests, Walker? It's the only method that works with Mac OS X Server
managed clients. Shouldn't you be able to write a script that sets the
display pref using the same method as Apple's WGM?

It sounds like you are setting this up only as a one-time initial
calibration. How do you handle ongoing calibration on per-machine basis?
This is where things usually break down as things drift off.

big difference as Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard all behave differently.

standing problem rears its head every day at any site using unique user
accounts on the same CPU. Often times graphics and photo users will be given
generic logins with just enough user rights to create display profiles.
Another even more complex situation is when the entire user account is
managed remotely. In this scenario named users can log into any number of
desktop CPUs but the system resources reside centrally on a server. As it is
often the case that profiles modify display card LUTs at a local level I
assume that there is really no way to calibrate a remotely administered
environment? Does anyone know of a calibration solution for this scenario?
