Dean,
If you are talking about the Xerox WS75xx family: great products, reliable, fast, excellent print quality.
The LED based print engine is far better than the laser based 74xx predecessor.
Big advantage: can print on heavy stock > 300 gsm
Color quality is excellent for layout and copy shop jobs and build in calibration keeps it very stable, but it is limited if you need proofing. There is an optional Fiery available for this type of jobs, too, but it is slow (at the slower end of slow ;-) ).
If you need profiling and if you can live with the color management abilities of Adobe CS you still get great results.
My recommendation - because handling and print quality differ a lot on these machines: ask for a test installation on your site ( a week for each should be enough).
If they don't provide it:
- create sample jobs of your typical applications
- visit the dealer and ask for a presentation incl. your own jobs
- during presentation pay close attention to
- the tools being used (do have these tools ? Are they included int the offer ?)
- the print path ( a Fiery print looks very different from a non Fiery print ).
- system maintenance ( can you handle it ? can you wait for a service rep ?)
Hope this helps,
Karsten
