I've made some progress in this problem in the last week. After several emails to X-Rite tech support I was finally able to get ColorPort to operate my Spectrolino and save out the properly formatted files for i1Profiler. The new profiles are now usable in CS5 and do not have the cyan overprint that the Gretag profiles were showing. That's the good news. The average news is that, while the profiles are very good, they're no better than the profiles I was making in ProfileMaker, and in fact, show a slight tilt toward magenta in a blue sky as compared to the Gretag. Other than that, the renditions are so similar that you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. There may be images I have not printed yet that will prove otherwise and there well may be some advantage on some matte papers, something I have not gotten around to yet.
The really weird thing about these new profiles, and they were generated with the new v1.2.0 Profiler, is that that they absolutely will not work with printing out of CS3, which I did to see if the new profiles would somehow get around the dark print bug. I'm on 10.6.8 with the latest drivers downloaded from Epson and installed after completely cleaning out the Print &Fax setup. The prints made with CS3 and these new i1 Profiler profiles look like they are about ten stops dark. You can barely see any detail in the print or in the on screen preview. I sent screen shots of the convert to profile dialog along with the profile to X-Rite. Should be interesting. I do feel like I'm using an early beta program that has hidden surprises around every corner.

Again they claimed to be unaware of the problem (outside of V4 profiles) although they could vaguely recall an instance of a Dutch language version of the Mac OS which exhibited a similar problem. They offered to take a look at the profile and make me a new one using i1Profiler using the original data.
