I would appreciate some suggestions in finding a replacement software RIP
for our Epson 4800 and 7800.
We were using the RIP for two purposes: sending InDesign files for either
color mock-ups for publications or for film positives for silkscreeening.
In the past we¹ve been using the ColorBurst RIP, but once we upgraded to
version 7.2, we lost our ability to send pages at custom sizes as well as
tiling pages. ColorBurst support said that we should not have been able to
do either one of these with the earlier versions so they couldn¹t help us.
As an interim measure, we¹ve been using the AccuRip-Wide for film positives,
but it would be preferable to have a RIP that would also work for color.
We need to make sure that the RIP will accept native InDesign files, output
rich blacks for film positives as well full-color, use custom page sizes
that do not match the InDesign file page size, tile pages (we do many pages
for exhibition graphics that are well over the size of the paper/film in the
printer).
I¹ve also been looking at brochures for the Epson Designer Edition Series,
which come with a modified version of the EPI RIP, but I wasn¹t sure of the
advantages of buying a RIP as part of the printer package or buying one
separately.
Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks
Chris
